China, Please take Our EPA!

The municipal government of Beijing, the capital of China, has announced an air pollution-control strategy involving reduced motor vehicle use and factory closings that it hopes will reduce the almost unbearably severe pollution that plagued its residents for much of January.

What China really needs is an Environmental Protection Agency — and we know we’re just dreaming, but why not lend them ours for a decade or two?

Americans, their homes and businesses, jobs and recreation, would get a respite from the heavy hand of the EPA’s myopic ideologues chasing (and sometimes slipping into intellectual dishonesty) the last percentage point of some pollutant whose concentration was pushed below the point of diminishing returns long ago. The EPA would suspend all work on new U.S. regulations, but leave enough staff in the United States to enforce existing standards.
